Did you have to put your plans to purchase a Toyota on hold because of the COVID-19 pandemic? Illness and interruptions to the global supply chain left Toyota with no other alternative than to lower its output.

But now there’s good news, Toyota announced a significant increase in assembly line activity for September 2022. Find out what the Toyota production plan means for you and your chances of owning the Toyota model you’ve wanted.

The Toyota Production Plan for September

Toyota officially released a statement saying that it aims to produce a total of 850,000 vehicles in September. The domestic Japanese market will receive 250,000 units while the rest of the world will be home to the remaining 600,000.

However, the latest Toyota news includes the carmaker’s estimate that for September, October, and November, it can average 900,000 vehicles per month. Toyota feels its supply chain now has enough parts available, and the workforce will be available despite ongoing threats from the pandemic.

That confidence has Toyota sticking to its target of rolling off the assembly line a total of 9.7 million vehicles by the end of its fiscal year in March 2023. But challenges are apparent, based on recent events.

Getting Past the Pandemic Roadblocks

The announcement comes at the same time Toyota revealed September plans to suspend production of three lines at its central Japan factory in Motomachi. There were already suspensions scheduled for the carmaker’s Tsutsumi plant.

The Toyota production plans and year-end goal will require Toyota to adjust continually to the ongoing demands in the wake of the pandemic. For example, in August, an outbreak of COVID-19 at its central Japan factory also suspended operations. That work stoppage came only weeks after a similar one at the Motomachi factory in July.

In addition to health challenges to its workers, Toyota has had to deal with the pandemic’s creation of a worldwide shortage of computer chips that struck in 2021. The reliance of modern car technology on semiconductors to control significant components of a vehicle, including engine function, makes chips indispensable for manufacturing.

Still the World’s Largest Automaker

Toyota has navigated the pandemic as well as has any of the other carmakers and remains the world’s biggest seller. The auto giant even improved its distance on runner-up Volkswagen AG and third-place General Motors.

Toyota expects to sell more vehicles by the end of this fiscal year than in the previous year. The company has set its sights on 10.7 million units, an improvement over the fiscal year 2022’s 10.4 million.
